We caught the 9:00 am train to Venice so we could meet up with Jamie and Tim, who were also on their honeymoon. As we walked out of the train station we were immersed into the three dimensional postcard that is Venezia. The most romantic city in Europe was at our feet, it was time to explore. Beyond Venice’s contagious romance, the concept of an ancient city where water serves the role of pavement was fascinating. I really wanted to experience and photograph what life in Venice is like beyond the tourist attractions, the small alleys and canals that were off the beaten path. For us, those would prove to be the most interesting and romantic.
We met up with Jamie and Tim at the far side of the Ponte D. Scalzi - The Barefoot Bridge and took in the city. We split a gondola ride through a quiet part of the city, wandered the offbeat canals of the Jewish Ghetto, battled the hordes at Piazza S. Marco - St. Mark’s Square, mingled with the posh trend-setters in the shopping district, and enjoyed a romantic Italian dinner against the setting sun on the Grand Canal. I’ll let the pictures tell the full the story.
