Fall Epic (prologue)

Okay that first post was a little long, but I wanted to start with a Bang! Here's another previous entry preluding my failed fall hang gliding epic.

My adventure level the past 6 weeks has been a little deficient, so I'll be "off the face" for a while.Turning 30 was cool, and it was great to see everyone and feel the love, but working to much and missing the Big Springs Meet (while pretending to be a wedding photographer) has taken its toll. Andrew if we don't get sued it will be a miracle... ...why did we do that again? We have been organizing one last push to bag 100 mile hang glider flights this year. The plan is to meet Adam and Jeff (from UT) along with a small contingent of Colorado Pilots in Dinosaur to explore flying options. Dinosaur, Moab, Paradox, and Grand Mesa are all possibilities. The route from Dinosaur will be to Steamboat. Moab and Paradox will be in the direction of the La Sals and Grand Junction. "Landing out" there will make "getting found" really hard. There isn't much between Grand Junction and Moab. Grand Mesa will be the most challenging route with it's cliff launch, the need for multiple climbs to near 18,000 feet, and dodging the most thunderstorms and SkyWest airplanes to get over the Rockies (it's cold at 18,000 feet this time of year). With luck flying together we can cross the Maroon Bells with enough altitude to make it to Crested Butte and beyond.Right now my priorities are to survive one last trip at work, load Molly Dog up, get the fuck out of town, wake up in the piercing quiet of the desert somewhere, and enjoy what ever air time I'm lucky enough to get! And if I manage to get a 100 miler or fly with another Golden Eagle I'll be stoked!!

Only 46hrs away...
